lower explosive limit (LEL)
The lowest concentration of a gas or vapor (percentage by volume in air) below which a flame will not spread in the presence of an ignition source (arc, flame, or heat). Concentrations lower than LEL are “too lean” to burn. Also called lower flammable limit (LFL). Also see upper explosive limit.
