The gradual loss in service value of a facility or piece of equipment due to all the factors causing the ultimate retirement of the facility or equipment. This loss can be caused by sudden physical damage, wearing out due to age, obsolescence, inadequacy, or availability of a newer, more efficient facility or equipment. The value cannot be restored by maintenance.
