electrochemical reaction

Chemical changes produced by electricity (electrolysis) or the production of electricity by chemical changes (galvanic action). In corrosion, a chemical reaction is accompanied by the flow of electrons through a metallic path. The electron flow may come from an external source and cause the reaction, such as electrolysis caused by a direct current (DC) electric railway, or the electron flow may be caused by a chemical reaction, as in the galvanic action of a flashlight dry cell.
