present worth
The value of a long-term project expressed in today’s dollars. Present worth is calculated by converting (discounting) all future benefits and costs over the life of the project to a single economic value at the start of the project. Calculating the present worth of alternative projects makes it possible to compare them and make a selection based on the largest positive (beneficial) present worth or minimum present cost.
