toxic substances control act (TSCA)
The Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 gave EPA the responsibility of controlling the entry of toxic, carcinogenic, or otherwise biologically active compounds into the environment. The act placed a heavy reporting burden on industry and contained provisions allowing EPA to demand premarket testing of some chemicals.
